Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.

I have heard this on and off forever. I never really put much thought into it until I had my weight loss surgery. Now I can totally understand this statement. I would much rather be healthy and live a longer healthier life than to eat junk food and things that do absolutely NOTHING for my body except make me feel terrible.

I have learned along the way that when I put good things in my body I feel good; however, when I put bad things in my body I feel terrible. Processed foods make me feel the complete worse. I  have had many friends and family tell me they can’t afford to eat healthy or that their children won’t eat this or that.

My tastes advice?

  • Processed foods are just as spendy and you never know what you are getting and putting into your body.
  • Buy fresh veggies and meal plan.
  • As for your children not eating what you cook, they will eat it or be hungry (I know that sounds a little bit harsh, BUT I can assure you when a child is truly hungry they will eat). Children are resilient and will learn to eat what is provided for them.

I have children and they were big fast food junkies (a habit I caused from a very early age), soda drinkers, candy snacking, processed food eating folks. Once I decided it was time for us all to become healthy, we had a little sit down family discussion (come to Jesus meeting as we call them) about what type of veggies they liked and some they wanted to try. In return, I agreed to fix the things they enjoyed and they had to agree to try the others I made. This has worked great with us because I try to mix it up one day with what they like, and the next we try something new or something they don’t care much for.

A win-win on our road to being healthy.

Just remember that piece of cake you are craving now will not fuel your body or help you get and stay healthy. You don’t have to go hungry or deprive yourself of certain foods – it’s not an all or nothing life for most who are working toward a healthier life style. Just keep reminding yourself:

  1. It is so true about eating healthy. When I cook a healthy home cooked meal, I always feel better than cooking something that is all processed and full of salt and fat. I eat salads and veges every day!

  4. I like this saying way more than the one I grew up hearing which was ‘Nothing tastes as good as Skinny feels’.
    It is more important to be healthy than skinny!!

  5. I was never one to eat a lot of processed food. My mom always made nice meals for us even though she worked and had 4 kids in 5 years. I do the same for my family. I make a well balanced meal and eat healthy snacks if I want a snack.
